Visiting the (Old Lawrencetown) Road Once Travelled

When I was a kid, we lived on a nondescript road, tucked in between Cole Harbour and Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia, known as Ritcey Crescent. It was a peaceful place to grow up, backing onto acres of forest. My brother and I spent a lot of time in those woods.

When you live in a place like that, it seems reasonable, necessary even, to have a dog. So after years of begging, my parents finally relented. In 1997, when I was ten years-old, I got my first dog.  Continue reading

Porters Lake Provincial Park Campground Off-Leash Dog Friendly

A Spontaneous Camping Trip to Our Very Favourite Campground

Every summer, we say we’re going to do more camping. And every summer, we end up being way too busy. Summer busy is a great kind of busy, don’t get me wrong. This summer in particular, we enjoyed lots of incredible adventures. But last weekend, we realized that September was here, and we had only gone camping twice. I just loved it. This excitement continued through my seven years of university, but when I entered the “real world”, August started slip into September unceremoniously.

This year, I get to feel the excitement all over again. I return to work the day after Labour Day, and although I am returning to an old job, it feels like a new beginning.

I also get to take some time to reflect on what was a really, really awesome summer. Continue reading

Rainbow Haven Beach in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia Off-Leash Dog Friendly

The Pros and Cons of Taking Your Dog to Rainbow Haven Beach

After finishing an inspiring year-long work term, I have a few weeks off before embarking on my next endeavour. How lucky am I that this transition lined up with the month of August? Naturally, this means spending a ton of quality time with Dallas (and other family members) at my parents’ lake house in New Brunswick. I have been out of the Province for about a week so far. But don’t worry – we’ve been out and about a ton this summer, so I have a few dogventures to catch you up on.  Continue reading
