Sandy seaside spots for those glorious Halifax summer days.
Have you ever thought about how lucky we are to live in a city with so many incredible beaches so close by? That said, when it comes to dog-friendliness, not all beaches are created equal. I hope this will help you find your favourite beach for sunny days with your four-legged friend.
Note: Since there are no off-leash sand beaches in the HRM (that I know of), I directly relate dog-friendliness to the size of the beach and the amount of traffic it gets.
- Conrad’s Beach
- Crescent Beach (Lockeport, NS)
- Crystal Crescent Beach
- MacCormack’s Beach
- Passamaquoddy Bay (Saint Andrews, NB)
- Port Joli Beach (Port Joli, NS)
- Rainbow Haven Beach
Would this community be interested in a off-leash dog beach? I’ve talked to a few people offline, and the answer I’m hearing is yes.
I’m with the Bedford Lions Club, and a number of years ago we opened Sandy Lake Park in Bedford. It’s an off-leash park, but not near the beach. Dogs aren’t allowed on the beach at all, which is a disappointment to many.

I’d like to develop another beach area in the park, separate from the ‘people beach’ where dogs could be off-leash, on a beach of their own.
If you’re interested, I’ll need your help. I can get support of the club, and probably support of the local Councillor, but there would need to be some fundraising as well as likely some physical labour involved.
Drop me a reply, or an email, and if we have sufficient interest, I’ll setup a meeting to discuss further.
